I've seen several recommendations to buy a paid theme for a blog. I've also seen lots of really great looking free ones. So, if anyone has purchased one, do you think it is worth the extra cost, or would you just go with a free one next time?

What are the benefits of buying one? What kind of support, if any, comes with the purchase?

For the majority of blogs, it is not necessary to have a paid theme as most people don’t come to your blog for its design, but they do come for its content. The only time a paid theme is needed is if your are a major company who needs their blog to be professional in order to represent their brand.

The design can be a big turn-on or turn-off to visitors.

A lot of free blog and forum designs - are professional.

Even if you buy them, its good to give a personal touch. Change something from the default.

I'd rather build from scratch because the results are always better and if there is a problem, it is easier to find and fix it (all without so much stress), but... If what you plan to pay meets your needs, why not buy it?

    Go ahead! ;)

For my site, they have plenty of free ones and they appear to be just as good as the paid ones. As long as that is the case, I'll continue to use the free ones. I don't see a reason to pay for a theme when the free appear to be just as good.

I don't think it is worth it for a blog as you don't make any money on the blog but it can make your website stand out which is a good thing but I don't believe it is worth it in my opinion.

Personally I think it's a matter of personal taste as well as the niche your blog is in. If you do decide to go with a paid template for your blog, I'd like to recommend an excellent website template shop. Excellent blog templates Themepire.com
However there are tons of free blogging templates available across the web. When you decide to produce a professional quality blog that you want to catch peoples attention or want to monetize you should definitely always go with a premium template no matter the type of site.

There are so many advantage a paid theme has over a free theme, like customization, support from designer, and regular update. When i started out, i was used to working with free theme but i later moved to a paid theme after i experience some restrictions in customizing to my taste. Free theme also leave a link below your website which you might not fancy for you business so the need for a paid theme.

Depending on your website, it would be a good idea to purchase a custom theme rather than a theme you can find for sale on the Internet. It depends on how serious you are about your business and if you want to be unique.

Very true very true Rare Candy. If one has the money to have a custom template developed, it is definitely the best practice.

I also bought a premium theme for my forum and just modify it myself. It's cheaper and very responsive. :)

you can also try their new forum design. :)

I would buy a custom theme then a theme already made. It's a little more expensive but it's unique and only for your forum which gives it that personal touch.

    I think it's worth it!
If you choose a good company, you can enjoy many advantages of a paid theme. I think the main advantage is the developer's support and the constant updates. I also think that a paid theme can be a lot cheaper than developing a bespoke theme.
A few months ago I bought a theme for my website in Wordpress and I confess that I liked it a lot. Today, if I have need, I will certainly evaluate the possibility of buying a ready theme.

You cannot compare the benefits you get from getting a free theme for your blog to purchasing one from a designer site. Such benefits like customer support and update as well as a special discount for getting new paid themes is one of those benefits of getting a paid theme.

If you have the money and want to get a good theme as well as assistance when needed, then going for a paid them is sure for you. the difference is just clear between a free theme and a paid one.
